Mission Statement

The Connecticut -American Association of Nurse Attorneys is an organization that addresses the needs and interests of nurse attorneys, nurses in law school and attorneys in nursing school.\
The CT-TAANA interfaces with a variety of other professional healthcare, nursing and legal organizations, and responds to many requests for information from editors, writers, policy makers, and members of the general public.  Our organization has grown to meet the needs of its members and plays a significant role in the future of healthcare policy.

The goals of our organization have included:

  • To establish a leadership role in healthcare policy making;
  • To influence healthcare social policy, healthcare legislation and nurse practice acts;
  • To educate the membership;
  • To educate the public about health law issues;
  • To educate the public about nurse attorneys;
  • To educate nurses about our legal system.
The members of CT-TAANA uniquely qualified to serve as counsel to many within our healthcare delivery system—consumers, healthcare providers, practitioners and institutions, and regulatory bodies.  Our members’ practices include administrative law, plaintiff’s personal injury, personal injury defense, medical malpractice, trust and estate law, risk management, general hospital law, insurance law, healthcare regulation, hospital administration, nursing practice, disciplinary defense of nurses, and nursing school faculty.

Our members have served nurses and the nursing profession in Connecticut in many ways.  One of our members was a lobbyist for the Connecticut Nurses' Association, and through her efforts, issues concerning the Nurse Practice Act were addressed by the legislature.  Our members have lectured to and written for nurses extensively on legal issues in nursing practice. And finally, we have successfully represented nurses in civil, criminal and administrative claims.
